[The Ark of the Covenant] [The Golden Candlestick] [The Table of Shewbread] [The Alter of Incense] [The Brazen Laver] [The Brazen Alter]

The Brazen Laver

The Laver, as well as its stand, was made of brass. It stood between the brazen altar and the tabernacle. Out of the smitten rock flowed the stream of water, and from it this basin was constantly refilled. Here the sacrifices were washed and the priests cleansed before entering the Tabernacle. From the mention of the "Laver and its Foot" one gets the idea of two containers, like a cup and saucer. Exodus 30:1-8; Exodus 38:1-7.

The Bronze Mirrors

Egyptian Dynasty 18 (1559-1320 B.C.E.)

The Biblical statement that the Laver was made of the looking glasses of the women of the congregation which assembled at the door of the Tabernacle, reveals the deep religious emotion which prevailed.
